All praise and gratitude we extend to God Almighty for His grace and blessings, which have enabled the completion of this book entitled "Education for Children with Special Needs in the Digital Era: Concepts, Strategies, and Potential Development."

This book was born out of a long journey that began with the preparation of an undergraduate thesis, later developed through field research, and ultimately compiled into a book in order to provide broader benefits. We hope that this book will not merely serve as an academic documentation but also as a bridge for many to better recognise, understand, and appreciate the potential of individuals with special needs.

The potential of individuals with special needs is often not fully developed due to limitations in understanding, approaches, and the support provided. Therefore, this book seeks to present insights on how to identify characteristics, understand needs, and nurture the potential of individuals with special needs through appropriate strategies. It is our expectation that society, educators, parents, and practitioners alike may find guidance in accompanying and empowering individuals with special needs toward independence and a meaningful life.

We are fully aware that this book still has shortcomings and limitations. Hence, we sincerely welcome constructive criticism and suggestions for the improvement of future editions. Finally, we express our deepest gratitude to all parties who have provided support, encouragement, and contributions throughout the process of writing and publishing this book. May this work bring significant benefits to the fields of education, guidance and counselling, as well as to society at large in supporting individuals with special needs to achieve their best potential.
en-USSpecial Needs Education in the Digital Era: Concepts, Strategies and Potential DevelopmentSpecial Needs Education in the Digital Era: Concepts, Strategies and Potential Development

The book “Special Needs Education in the Digital Era: Concepts, Strategies, and Potential Development” explores the urgency of inclusive education and the empowerment of individuals with special needs in the context of rapid technological advancement. The discussion begins with the philosophical and humanitarian foundation that every human being, regardless of physical, intellectual, emotional, or social limitations, deserves equal rights and opportunities in education and social participation. The book emphasises that individuals with special needs possess unique potentials that, when properly recognised and facilitated, can be developed into valuable competencies for personal independence and social contribution. This work also presents a comprehensive framework that integrates conceptual understanding, identification, and the implementation of digital-based learning strategies tailored to the diverse characteristics of learners. It discusses the role of educators, counsellors, and families in building adaptive and strength-based learning environments supported by digital innovation. The book further highlights how technological tools—particularly in the digital era—can enhance accessibility, interactivity, and effectiveness in special needs education, thereby fostering motivation, confidence, and inclusivity. The book aims to provide both theoretical and practical contributions. For academics, it serves as a reference in the study of inclusive education and educational technology. For practitioners, it offers concrete strategies to identify and develop the potential of learners with special needs through observation, assessment, and individualised intervention. Ultimately, this book aspires to promote social awareness and create an inclusive educational ecosystem that respects human diversity and dignity in the digital age.
Melda Rumia Rosmery SimorangkirNugra Heni Kristina
