He works at the Instituto de Investigaciones Cerebrales, Universidad Veracruzana, Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico. He received his B.Sc. degree in Experimental Biology from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Iztalapa, Mexico in 1992. He obtained a master’s degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the Centro de Investigación y Estudios Avanzados, IPN, Mexico, in 1996, and a PhD in Neurobiology from the Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel, in 2001. He is a member of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society USA. His line of research focuses on Alzheimer's disease, mainly on the expression of RNA and proteins involved in this pathology. He has published several articles and book chapters on this neurodegenerative disease. He is the president and member of the southeastern Mexican chapter of the Society for Neuroscience. He participates in the training of PhD students and teaches molecular and cellular neurobiology to PhD students.
