Abstract

The forest-based industries are undergoing a significant transformation driven by the need for sustainable and high-performance materials. This book explores the intersection of chemistry, manufacturing, and performance in forest products science and technology. The work focuses on the development of innovative chemical treatments and manufacturing processes to enhance the durability, stability, and aesthetic appeal of wood-based products. The use of bio-based adhesives, nanotechnology, and advanced composites to create high-value forest products with improved mechanical properties and reduced environmental impact was investigated. Additionally, the potential of emerging technologies, such as 3D printing and biodegradation, to revolutionise the manufacturing and end-of-life recycling of forest products was examined. The findings demonstrate the potential for forest products to play a critical role in the development of a more sustainable and circular economy. By integrating cutting-edge chemistry and manufacturing techniques, forest products that not only meet the performance demands of modern applications but also contribute to a more environmentally conscious and responsible industry can be created. This work contributes to the advancement of forest products science and technology, providing new insights and solutions for the development of sustainable, high-performance materials that benefit both the environment and society.
